What is MONITERM and how does it work? |
|
MONITERM is a new subterranean termite monitoring and aggregation system consisting of specifically designed containers with pieces of termite preferred timbers in each container. The containers are made of ultra violet stabilised polypropylene with a lid and termite entry points in the base of the container. The containers come ready to install in a cardboard box with 6 containers inside and each container has 5 termite preferred pieces of timber in situ. Moniterm should be used as part of an overall termite management system for the protection of susceptible buildings. It is important to use this monitoring system in conjunction with annual inspections and other recommendations made by your preferred pest control company. MONITERM does not avoid the need for annual inspections of your property. How is MONITERM installed? The containers are dug into garden beds or lawn areas around the buildings being monitored, preferably not adjacent to the buildings. The containers are dug into garden beds/soil with the top of the container about 1cm above soil level and the sides are backfilled. Once in position it is recommended you place a pot plant, garden ornament, paver or stepping stone on top of the container so that you know exactly where it is when the time comes to check it.. This also helps keep the temperature in the containers fairly constant and humid, ideal conditions for foraging termites. |

What do I do if I find mudding/termites are present? If mudding/termites are detected do not disturb or attempt to treat the termites yourself. You should immediately contact a licensed pest controller to come and inspect the container. If termites are active in the container your pest controller will treat the container with an Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority approved product to eliminate the termite colony.. When the termite colony has been eliminated the container can be cleaned out and new timbers put in place so that the monitoring process continues for any other foraging termite colonies. |
